Tube (Subway) network for Accra?

An intra-city rail line is being planned for the city of Accra to ease the congestion which has plagued the nationAEs capital for over a decade. Proposals for the system are being worked out by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. A French team is expected in the country soon to finalise arrangements to enable the economic and technical studies to take off.

Though the project is at a very early stage, Ghana Review has learnt that the system being planned would aim to provide state-of- the art rail transport within Accra and its surrounding suburbs. Though an underground network has yet to be discussed, the possibility of this has not been discarded and pending feasibility studies, Ghana could be the first country in the West Africa sub-region to have a fully-fledged underground system.

The rail system being planned is expected to link up places like Weija and Madina thereby easing the transportation problems in Accra. Funding for the project is expected to come from Caisse Francaise du Development.
