Asantehene opens Vodafone 61st Golf Championship

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has performed the ceremonial tee-off for the commencement of the 61st Vodafone Asantehene Open Golf Championship at the Royal Golf Club, Kumasi.

The king, clad in his golf outfit, teed-off amidst applause from the gathering, including paramount chiefs, government officials, corporate executives, professional and amateur golfers, as well as officials of Vodafone Ghana, sponsors of the programme.

The event brought together about 300 golfers from Ghana and other countries in the West African sub-region, who would be competing for honours in three main categories – Professional Scratch, Professional Seniors and Amateur. Mr. David Suglo, a Supervisor of the Royal Golf Club, briefing the GNA Sports, said the four-day event was expected to create all the thrills associated with such competi tive championships.

The event, which is the official open golf tournament of His Royal Majesty, the Asantehene, had over the years attracted renowned golfers across the sub-region, and gradually establishing itself as one of the most competitive golf championships in Africa.

Mr. Suglo, on behalf of the Club, expressed the best of wishes to the competitors.

Ms. Yolanda Cuba, Chief Executive of Vodafone Ghana, indicated that the company was delighted to be associated with the championship, and assured of their commitment to roll out innovative products and packages for the benefit of their customers.
