Asante Akyem Marathon Challenge set for April 2

The second edition of the Asante Akyem Marathon comes off on Easter Monday, April 2, 2018 and will be a 42km national open race for both men and women to be staged in Agogo in the Ashanti Region.

The Asante Akyem Marathon Challenge is an annual road race instituted by SportsLife a sports promotion, marketing and event management in Accra and Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency.

The marathon is to provide another platform for competition for the long distance runners in the country, help to unearth, nurture and develop talent for the future.

Speaking to the media at the launch,” Kojo Baah Agyemang said, the awards will span from the first to the tenth and the youngest athlete will to participate in the competition will be awarded”.

General Secretary for the Ghana Athletics Association, Bawa Fuseni, told the media that the athlete to win the marathon will have the full support of the association.

This year’s marathon will start from Oyoko near Effiduase, into Wonoo, Besoro, through Kumawu and finish at Agogo Lorry Park.

The maiden race was won by William Amponsah from Swedru and as part of his prize participated in the 2018 edition of the prestigious Dubai Marathon and will also run at the Lagos Marathon.

William Amponsah has been added to the national U20 team that will represent Ghana at the IAAF Championship in Finland in July.

The event is in partnership with the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), National Sports Authority (NSA), the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
