Appiah explains difficulty in handing home-based players call-ups

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says it is getting increasingly difficult for him to call up locally based players into the Black Stars due to the rising rate of player exodus.

There is no outfield player from the Ghanaian leagues in the current squad for the opening 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Only goalkeeper Stephen Adams of Aduana Stars is a representative from the Ghana Premier League.

But Appiah says inasmuch as he wants to invite locally-based players into his team, the increasing rate of player exodus from Ghana makes it difficult for him to do so.

“I have a chart I use to monitor players but then local players are always leaving the system,” he said.

“If you look at the CHAN team, almost 50 percent of the players have left the league.

“If I am to call let say Kwabena Edusei now, will he be a local or a foreign-based player?”
