France striker Antoine Griezmann has officially announced his retirement from international football.
The Atletico Madrid forward made his announcement via a post on X, bidding farewell to the French national team.
He noted that he had a memorable time with Les Bleus and thanked the team for what he labelled as a 'magnificent adventure'.
"It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolour adventure and see you soon," he wrote.
Antoine Griezmann, 33, played his last match for France in a 2-0 victory over Belgium in the UEFA Nations League on September 9, 2024.
He came off the bench for the final 10 minutes of the match, which was his 137th appearance in the French colours.
Griezmann, who started his international career playing for France at the U-20 level, made his senior debut in May 2014.
His 137 appearances for France made him the fourth-most-capped player in the country's history.
He scored 44 goals in the process, making him the fourth-highest scorer in France's history, sitting behind Olivier Giroud, Thierry Henry, and Kylian Mbappe.
Antoine Griezmann won the World Cup and UEFA Nations League and finished as runner-up in the Euros in his decade spell with France.
His most memorable run with the national team came in 2016 and 2018. He won the Best Player award and the Golden Boot in the 2016 Euros whereas he won the third Best Player award and Silver Boot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
C’est avec le cœur plein de souvenirs que je clos ce chapitre de ma vie. Merci pour cette magnifique aventure tricolore et à bientôt. 🇫🇷 pic.twitter.com/qpw8dvdtFt
