Anthony Ackah to lead SWAG

Accra, Nov 29, GNA - Mr Anthony Ackah, a sports editor of the Graphic Communications Group will assume leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) as President in the coming days. Mr Ackah's ride to the top was made easier when his only challenger in the forthcoming elections, Mr Ebo Quansah withdrew from the race at the eleventh hour.

A press release signed by the outgoing Assistant Secretary, Mr Maurice Quansah on Wednesday, November 29 also named four other sitting members of the current executives as having stepped down ahead of the elections slated for Saturday, December 2.

They include Mr Kwabena Yeboah, Vice President, Mr Maurice Quansah, Secretary, Ms Rosalind Amoh, Treasurer and Mr Ben Ohen-Aryeh, Member. The release said the decision was taken following events during and after the Emergency Meeting held at New Times Corporation on Tuesday and in the supreme interest of SWAG.

It named two other people who had filed their nominations, Mr Mathias Tibu and Nii Manle-Adsei for the positions of Assistant Secretary and Executive Member respectively as having stepped down as well.

The current development gives Mr Ackah's team which comprises, Mr Richard Avornyotse, as Secretary, Mr Wiliam Ezah as Assistant Secretary, Miss Veronica Commey as Treasurer and Mr George Lawson as Member, an easy ride to office.

In consequence, Mr Alfred Lanyo, a freelance sports writer who also filed for an executive position enters office on the back of the withdrawals.

The only snag in the new development is the absence of a Vice President, as nobody had filed to challenge the incumbent, Kwabena Yeboah for that position.
