The Ghana Boxing Authority has described as unfortunate and unlawful the actions of boxer Patrick Allotey who was caught on camera beating a Kotoko fan at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The boxer was captured on a video inflicting punches on a fan who was celebrating Kotoko’s 2-1 victory over Accra Hearts of Oak last Sunday.

The spokesperson of the GBA, Sammy Heywood Okine told ghanaweb.com that the president of the association is livid and has called for a meeting to discuss possible sanctions for the boxer.

Sammy Heywood Okine stated that the actions of the boxer violates the codes of ethics of his profession and the GBA will soon come out with a punishment that will serve as a deterrent to other boxers.

He maintained that the GBA has a zero-tolerance policy towards boxer indiscipline and will crack the whip on Allotey.

He noted that per the rules of the GBA, the boxer is likely to get either a permanent or temporal ban.

He used the opportunity to apologise to the victim and Ghanaians and called on all boxers to desist from such acts.

“We are very upset with what we’ve seen. It’s very unfortunate that a boxer with an African title will misbehave as such in public. The whole GBA is not happy with what happened at all. We don’t condone such things because as a boxer you should know that your license allows you to fight only in the ring not outside. We are all sad and not happy.

“The President of the GBA is very angry with him and he will by all means be sanctioned. His license can be revoked or he will be sanctioned for some time. What he did is not good and on behalf of the GBA, I want to say sorry to the victim and the Ghanaians. We will punish him and all boxers should learn from it.

Meanwhile Patrick Allotey has issued an apology to the victim, Ghanaians and the GBA for his ‘shameful behavior’.

Allotey said in a statement that he has taken steps to reach out to the victim and called for unity among fans of Hearts and Kotoko.
