Anas hits headlines with impressive Maritzburg debut

Ghanaian striker Mohammed ‘Mike’ Anas scored one goal and set up another in his debut for South African side Maritzburg as they claimed a 3-0 win over Chippa United.

The unknown attacker, who played in Swaziland hit the headlines in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday night as he scored against Black Stars keeper Fatau Dauda.

The Ghanaian, who penned a three-year deal earlier this month, netted a 20th minute opener, with Nhlanhla Vilakazi and Sheldon van Wyk scoring after the break at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Anas opened the scoring with a 21st-minute header, before setting up Nhlanhla Vilakazi for a fine second six minutes into the second half.

A sweeping counter attack led to the second goal as Banda and Mohammed combined to set up Vilakazi, who curled in from 20 yards.

Substitute Sheldon van Wyk added a third goal with five minutes to play as the Team of Choice shot into fourth place on the table.

The performance of the Ghanaian attacker has catapulted him to the limelight after Kaizer Chief refused the opportunity to sign him on after having trials with them.

Anas, who is hugely built, could be an interesting addition to the Black Stars if he continues with this form in the South African top-flight.
