Anaba delighted to score debut CAF Champions League goal

Kumasi Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Anaba has expressed his delight at scoring his first CAF Champions League goal.

Asante Kotoko thrashed Equatorial Guinea side,Sony Ela Nguema 7-0 in the first preliminary duel in Kumasi on Sunday courtesy the goals of Kofi Nti Boakye who scored a brace, Abdul Aziz Yusif, Richard Mpong, Seidu Bancey, Joseph Ochaya and Michael Anaba to give Kotoko a huge advantage going into the return leg two weeks hence in Malabo.

And the former Windy Professionals player, of course one of the goal scorers in that total humiliation of Sony Ela Nguema told Gbc Ura Radio Sports in Bolgatnaga that he was very happy to make his CAF Champions’ League debut and even more delighted for scoring one of the goals.

“Playing in the CAF Champions’ League is very great and I as an individual am very happy to have scored my debut goal, but the team winning in general made me feel more special,” he said.

Micheal Anaba however admits that all is not yet a done deal regarding their progress to the next stage of the competition even though they hold the advantage going into the 2nd leg.

“I’m a player and I will always go onto the field of play to do exactly what my coach asks me to do. I can’t say we have already qualified to the next round because football is full of surprises. But I pray that we beat them again at their own backyard and qualify to the next round of the competition,” he added.

Kotoko will meet either JSM Bejaia of Algeria or Niger’s FC Olympic de Niamey in the next round if they advance after the return leg next month in Malabo.
