Amponsah and Thompson crash out of AIBA Championships

Accra, Sept 30, GNA – Two more Ghanaian boxers have crashed out of the 2011 International Boxing Association (AIBA) World Championship underway in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Heavyweight Maxwell Amponsah and Welterweight Norris Thompson have joined compatriot Duke Micah on the casualty list of the Black Bombers participating in the championship.

Amponsah lost 7:17 to Draskovic Bosko of Montenegro in the 81 Kg division whilst Thompson was defeated 13:22 by Kholiqov Komiljon of Tajikistan in the 69 Kg category, both fights came off on Wednesday.

The disappointing output leaves the hope of the country on Amoo Bediako, Light welterweight and Emmanuel Quarshie in the Middleweight division.

The tournament, which ends on October 10, is also a qualifier for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
