Accra, Aug. 5, GNA - The Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) is to organise a boxing championship from August 14 to August 15 to commemorate this year's Ga Homowo Festival.
The two-day event slated for the Mantse-Agbonaa Park in James Town will serve as a platform for the promotion of the sport in the Region.

He said about 80 amateur boxers from 38 boxing Clubs will compete for honours in 10-weight categories.
The GAABA Chairman added that the championship will be heralded by a Press Conference on Tuesday, August 10 at the Ohene Djan Stadium with a Homowo Peace Walk to be embarked on through some principal streets of the national capital.
Kotei Neequaye said some of the sponsors for the event include Accra Brewery Limited Castle Milk Malt (title sponsor), M and G Pharmaceuticals, Universal Cosmetics, Accra Metropolitan Assembly with support from the United Boxing Coaches Association of Ghana.
Kotei Neequaye said that plans are advanced to organize similar championships for Osu, La, Teshie, Nungua and Tema to commemorate their turns of Homowo Festival.
Over 4,000 fans across Greater Accra and beyond are expected to grace the event to be graced by officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Council, Regional Coordinating Council, former World boxing champions, Azumah Nelson and Joseph Clottey, Jonathan Tackie-Komme, Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye - Special Aide to the President amongst others.
