All Blacks Pip Oly 1- 0 In Premier League Match

Accra (Greater Accra) 7 Dec.'97 Wonder Club Accra Great Olympics failed to glitter when new entrants Swedru all Blacks pipped them 1-0 in their opening ABC Golden lager Premier Football League Match played at the Accra Sports Stadium today. Right winger Ernest Boateng of Kotoko fame scored the only goal in the 71st minute. The scoreline came as no surprise to many Oly fans since the wonder club is noted for its slow start in the premier league. Only lost by a similar margin in their last season's first match to the then newly-promoted Yiji Elf. All Black kicked off after a two-minute silence was observed by both teams in memory of the Ghanaian International Star Shamo Quaye whose tragic death occurred last Sunday at Tema. The two sides, who wore mourning red and black armbands, put up a sub-standard performance and Oly who, played a little better than their opponents in the first half, could not score due to erratic shooting coupled with over elaboration on the part of their attackers. The visitors took control of the game after the break and it came as no surprise when Boateng netted the only goal in the 71st minute. Inside left cantona Eric Ofori beat an off trap, raced with the ball into the penalty area of Oly and gave a good pass to in-rushing Boateng who shot into the net. After his goal, Boateng became a target of rought play and in the 90th minute Koforidua-based Fifa referee E.K. Okuampah showed Oly's central defender Eben Kotey the red card for rough tackle on Boateng. gri
