Desailly dedicates sports complex to mum

Football legend Marcel Desailly thanks his late mother for the important role she played in the decision to build what is now known as Lizzy Sports Complex. Located at East Legon in Accra, the plush premise was commissioned only last Saturday amid pomp and pageantry.

According to the World Cup winning defender, he dedicates the 3 million Euros facility to his late mum Elizabeth Addy for her foresight, urge and desire to compel him to return to Ghana after enjoying so much success in world football.

“The vision of my mother who is now dead but I’m proud of her. Its great and emotional thing for me to confirm the structure what my mother has been dreaming of for the past 20 years. We bought this land like 10, 15 years ago,” Desailly said.

The Lizzy Sports Complex, fittingly named after the ex France captain’s mother (Elizabeth Addy) boasts at least three standard training pitches, an Olympic size swimming pool, a state of the art gymnasium, a health centre, lifestyle shops amongst others. The complex also possesses first class residential facilities suitable for both local and international team camping.

Desailly obviously couldn’t contain his excitement.

“3 years of work of my life, we are talking about sports, we are talking about health and Ghana having a good exposure worldwide. I’m also hoping that what I’ve done will bring other people of the sporting world to come invest and commit themselves to sports development,” Desailly said.
