Albert Adomah faces two weeks on the sidelines after suffering a gash to his left shin in Aston Villa's first pre-season friendly last week.

The Ghanaian winger was pulled by manager Steve Bruce midway through the first half of Villa’s 4-0 win over Telford United at New Bucks Head after he collided with an opposition defender.

Adomah, 29, was tended to by Villa’s medical team on the field before attempting to return to no avail.

The Birmingham Mail understands the ex-Middlesbrough star has had four stitches in his shin as a result of the challenge, while he has also strained ligaments in the back of his knee.

The news has come as a blow to Adomah - who is heading into his second season at Villa Park after joining from Boro last August - and he will recover at the claret and blues' Bodymoor Heath training base before stepping up his preparations for the new season next week.

The first team squad will travel out to Germany later this week for a mini pre-season tournament at the MSV-Arena in Duisburg.
