Afriyie-Ankrah weeps at C’ssion hearing

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Elvis Afriyie Ankrah could not restrain himself but to shed tears during the second day of his interrogation by the Commission of Inquiry on Thursday, August 21.

The Minister of State at the Presidency was explaining circumstances that led to player revolt in the Black Stars’ camp prior to their final group game against Portugal.

The revolt led to the flight of $3 million from Accra to Brasilia while two players – Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Ali Muntari – were expelled from the Ghana camp.

It is unclear what triggered Mr Afriyie Ankrah’s emotions, but it is believed he felt betrayed by the players, together with whom he had promised to bring the world cup trophy to Ghana.

He was calmed by Chairman of the Commission Justice Senyo Dzamefe into recomposing himself to continue giving witness.

“Don’t be emotional,” the Appeals Court judge consoled the Minister.

Mr Afriyie Ankrah said Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur had to intervene to get the players to open their world cup campaign with the United States of America.
