Aduana Stars will begin preparations for the 2016-17 Ghana Premier League campaign which will kicks off on December 18, with a game against third-tier side Adoafuaman FC at the Sefwi Aduafua Community Park on Sunday.
After mutually parting ways with former coach Cioaba Aristica, caretaker manager Kwasi Ankamah’s first game in charge of the Fire Club will be a short trip to Sefwi, as they cross the Brong Ahafo and Western regional boundary in a bid to have a good preparation.
Speaking of the club's pre-season plans, chief executive officer of Aduana, Albert Commey insisted that Adoafuaman will provide them the needed opposition since they are also eyeing a qualification to the second-tier.
“The first game against Adoafuaman FC is very important to us. We are now starting our pre-season and would want to begin with lower division clubs,” Commey told Goal.
“Our opponents are even preparing for their playoffs so they will be a good test. Friendly matches of this nature give the players a very good start since they have not been active in a couple of months.
“The backroom staff will have the opportunity to assess some new faces, who have joined the first team, since our new coach is not in. We have a lot of supporters in and around Sefwi municipality, therefore, despite falling to win the league title last season, the supporters can have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of their stars and also interact with them through shooting of photos and maybe signing some autographs.
“We will play other friendly games with some division one clubs before the Ghalca G6 tournament kicks off on November 13 to usher us into the season,” he added.
Aduana ended last season second on the log with 48 points, three points behind champions Wa All Stars.
