Adomah dreaming of playing in World Cup

Middlesbrough FC winger Albert Adomah is dreaming of playing in the World Cup finals.

The 25-year-old is hoping to be named in the Ghana team for Tuesday’s World Cup play-off first leg tie against Egypt in Kumasi.

The winners of the tie - the second leg is scheduled to be played on November 19 - will progress to next summer’s World Cup, which is being staged in Brazil.

Ghana are favourites to qualify for the finals but will be missing key men Kevin-Prince Boateng, John Boye and Jonathan Mensah next week.

Adomah revealed that his chances of playing in a World Cup tournament were virtually nil back in the summer of 2010 when South Africa were hosts.

“Around the time of the last World Cup I was just about to sign for Bristol City and in the summer I was playing park football and five-a-side football as well,” he told Ghanasoccernet.com.

“So hopefully I can go from park football in 2010 to World Cup in 2014. That would be unbelievable.”

Adomah has settled in quickly at Boro since his move from Bristol City in August.

He hopes a successful season in the Championship will help his international prospects and boost his chances of inclusion in the Black Stars’ squad for Brazil if they qualify for the finals.

Adomah certainly enjoys linking up with his international team-mates.

He said: “I’ve only played 12 games for Ghana and now I feel like I’m part of the national team, which is great.

“The team bus is always full of joy. On the way to games and even before and after training sessions, we’re all singing and dancing.

“It’s completely different to England where people are on their phones texting or wearing headphones.

“The spirit is always the same, we’re all like brothers, no one is higher than anyone else. Even though some players play at a higher level we’re all equal when we’re at the camp.

“No-one treats anyone else like they’re small or big, everyone’s equal which is really good.”
