Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Kwabena Dodzie has predicted that Parma loanee Afriyie Acquah will be an instant hit at the World Cup if he makes the final 23-man squad to represent Ghana.
The Glentoran product has been sensational for his side this season.
“Among the 26 players called, Acquah is the player I'm really interested in because he's combative and breaks down opponents attack with ease which reminds me of my active days,” Dodzie told Goal Ghana.
“I honestly believe he will make the final squad and represent the nation, every Ghanaian who has been watching Acquah on television when he plays for Parma will attest to the fact that he is by far the most improved midfielder from Ghana.
“He will do very well despite this tournament being his first for the senior national team,” he added.
Dodzie also admitted the local league must be improved in order to attract sponsors, adding that coach Kwesi Appiah was right to name only one local player in his provisional panel.
He stated: “Our league is deteriorating every season, coach Kwesi Appiah has shown all Ghanaians that the local league is not the same some years back. In the past, players from the local league were dominating the Black Stars because they were equally good as the foreign players but things have changed dramatically.
“I believe the leaders must put things in place to attract sponsors which will help keep the quality ones we have in the system at home rather than leaving for greener pastures outside. I cannot tell you two or three local players who are very good to compete with the foreign ones because the system is not good.”
Dodzie currently plays for second-tier side BA United.
