Acherensua SHS crowned Champions of Schools' Sports Festival

Kumasi, July 12, GNA - Acherensua Senior High School (SHS) emerged Champions of the Boys' football of the 20th edition of the Milo Schools' Sports Festival when they defeated Tamale SHS 2-1 in the final match played at the Baba Yara Sports in Kumasi at the week-end. Two well-rehearsed goals by Asante Mensah and Dauda Ibrahim in the 16th and 18th minutes were all that the Brong-Ahafo Region-based school needed to upstage the Tamascan lads, the defending champions. The goal of the Tamascans was scored by Jebdond Abidi in the 79th minute when he rose above the defence to connect home a Mohammed Shafik's in-swinger.

Acherensua SHS were presented with a trophy and gold medals as well as souvenirs from Nestle Ghana Limited, sponsors of the Festival whilst Tamale SHS went home with the silver medals and souvenirs. In the third place match, Osei Kyeretwie SHS accounted for Abuakwa State College 2-1 and were also presented with the bronze medals and souvenirs.

In the Boys' Under-12 football category, Ashanti Region beat Greater Accra Region 3-1 on penalties after the two teams had settled to a 1-1 drawn game in regulation time to be presented with gold medals, a trophy and souvenirs whiles Greater Accra Region went home with silver medals and souvenirs.

Eastern Region defeated Volta 3-1 for the third place and were also presented with Bronze medals and souvenirs.

In the Girls' Under-15 football category, Ashanti Region beat Western 5-4 on penalties after the two teams drew 1-1 in regulation time to receive their prizes of a trophy and gold medals with Western Region taking home silver medals and souvenirs.

In the third place match, Brong Ahafo Region were declared winners when the Greater Accra Region team failed to turn up for the match and took home bronze medals and souvenirs as their prize.
