Former Ghana goalkeeper Abuabakari Damba insists Swiss based forward Raphael Dwamena is the right player to succeed Asamoah Gyan in terms of goal scoring.

The striker has been prolific for Club side FC Zurich and has since become an important part of the Black Stars with Captain Asamoah Gyan’s nagging injuries affecting the team.

Dwamena scored a brace on his international debut and Abubakari Damba believes the 22 year old could be the man to fill in the big vacuum to be left by Asamoah Gyan, should he retire any time soon.

“You can’t have a cut and paste of Asamoah Gyan, he’s a player with his own class and style and he has certainly paid his dues in the senior national team and you just cant find words to describe him,” he said on the Legends TV Show on GHOne.

“But I tip Rapheal Dwamena to take over from Gyan and I believe if he is given more time playing time we would find glimpses of Gyan in him and overly impressed with him so far especially his position around the goal area.

“Nonetheless Gyan is still a key player in the team and is good to have him around despite his injury concerns so that he can help the up and coming ones.”

Gyan is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with over a century of goals and has the record of being the top goal scorer from Africa at the FIFA World Cup.

The 31 year old however, picked up a knock in training ruling him out of the game against Egypt on Sunday.

Meanwhile Raphael Dwamena and Richmond Boakye-Yiadom are expected to start upfront.
