Absence of domestic league won't affect Ghana’s performance - Ibrahim Tanko

Head coach of Black Meteors Ibrahim Tanko insists the absence of domestic league in Ghana will not affect Black Meteors performance at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The domestic league has been suspended since June 2018 due to the corruption scandal that has devastated the nation’s game.

Nonetheless, the ex-Cameroon assistant coach named as many as 9 local-based players to complement the 12 foreign-based players in his final squad for the tournament.

“Its true we’ve not had competitive domestic football in about a year but we also have players in foreign leagues so we came here with a good blend of local and foreign-based players for this competition,” Tanko said.

“Though we didn’t get all the players we wanted I believe in the players I’ve invited and I believe they will show what they can do. I am very happy with the performance I’ve seen from them so far” he added.

“On the pitch, we will do our maximum best to win the game. My team is ready and we are to map up a strategy to help us qualify to the Olympics”, the Black Meteors head coach emphasized.

coach Ibrahim Tanko will be aiming for a winning start against Cameroon in their opening game of Group A tonight.

Ghana is making its debut appearance at the continental gathering and will be eyeing one of the three slots to book qualification to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
