5 things about Depay who could have played for Ghana

His father is Ghanaian

Memphis Depay was born by a Ghanaian father and Dutch mother in the southern Dutch town of Moordrecht, a small village just outside Rotterdam in 1994.

His parents divorced when he was four years old

Depay's parents split up when he was only four years old, with the youngster living with his mum. Memphis has numerous tattoos, including one that is a tribute to his grandfather who passed away a day after his 15th birthday.

Hugely influenced by him, Depay has words dedicated to his grandfather tattooed down the left arm of his heavily-inked 5ft 9in frame. “That man gave me a lot of strength and took great care of me,” says Depay. “At that moment I thought to myself I’ve got to go for it. I know where I want to go, and that is the top.”

He is a fan of Real Madrid

After Real Madrid's Copa del Rey clasico semi-final win over rivals Barcelona in 2013 Depay joyously tweeted “Hala Madrid!
