2nd Disabled Sports Festival To Be Held In November 1997

The Association for Sports for the Disabled (ASFOD) is organising the second national tricycle marathon and the first national sports festival for the "physically challenged" on Saturday, November one in Accra. Mrs. Ellen Essilfie, chairperson of ASFOD said in Accra today that about 126 participants are expected from all the 10 regions. Each region will be represented by eight athletes and two marathon tricyclists. She said the marathon cyclists would travel 42 kilometres while events in the sports festival would include 100, 400, 800 and 1,500 metres, short putt, high jump and standing long jump. Mrs. Essilfie said Shell (Ghana) Limited, sponsors of the maiden 21-kilometre marathon in Accra last year, is sponsoring this year's event at 12 million cedis. Handsome prizes will be given to deserving participants.
