Botswana sprinter, Tshwanelo Aabobe emerged as the champion of the 100m decathlon race in the opening event of the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships.

The competition, held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on May 12, 2026, saw athletes fiercely contesting for top honors.

The winner began with a steady pace to monitor his competitors, then gradually increased his speed and eventually outpaced them to secure victory.

Other athletes from South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, and several other countries followed, finishing in positions two through six.

This was the first event on day one, with more competitions scheduled to follow.

It is worth noting that the 2026 African Athletics Championships will run from May 12 to 17, 2026, at the UG Sports Stadium, as Ghana hosts the competition for the very first time.
