2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Black Stars handed manageable group - SWAG President

President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah says the Black Stars have been handed a manageable group in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers which begins from March 2020 to November 2021.

Ghana will face off against South Africa, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia in the third round of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup to held in Qatar.

According to the veteran sports journalist, the Black Stars are lucky to have been drawn in Group G.

“The World Cup is the World Cup and I think every single nation pays great attention to the World Cup so I won’t call it an easy group but I must say it is manageable unlike Cameroon and Ivory Coast who find themselves in the same group”.

“I think if we want to be at the World Cup,we should be able to handle Ethiopia and Zimbabwe very well. South Africa may be a bit tough but I think they are manageable.

“In 2005, we handled them and qualified to the World Cup when we beat them at their home soil and recently when we beat them 2-0 at Cape Coast.

“I strongly believe we have a group that’s manageable and we should be able to sail through comfortably to the play offs”.

He further advised the team not to underestimate any opponent keeping in mind what happened to Ghana way back in 1994.


“I think we need to pay great attention to small details before we can get to the play offs because the story of Burundi is still on our minds when we underestimated them years back when we had the likes of Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah and we all thought it was an easy game and they really upsets us and we couldn’t qualify for the World Cup in 1994 so we shouldn’t take any chances”.




The Black Stars made their debut in the 2006 World Cup held in Germany, reaching the Round of 16, before making it to the quarter-finals in South Africa four years later. The team however, failed to qualify for the 2018 edition in Russia.
