2017/2018 National Women’s League launched

The 2017/2018 National Women’s League has officially been launched paving way for the season to start this weekend.

The ceremony which was held at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra on Wednesday, April 4 was graced by the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, the Managing Director of Fresh Pack, Nana Ofori Owusu, the vice chairman of the Women’s League Boards and bigwigs from the football fraternity.

The tournament which kicks off on April 6 will see 16 teams battle for honours. The teams have been divided into two zones (Northern and Southern zones) based on their geographical locations with the play-offs set for September 2018.

FreshPak Products, A subsidiary of Groupe Nduom was also unveiled as the official headline sponsor the National Women’s League.

The company has agreed a two-year deal worth GHC500,000 with the Ghana Football Association to become the official sponsors of the league which has been running since 2012.

The President of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi described the deal as a historic one which will relieve the FA and the clubs of their financial worries.

“ This is a very important event in the history of Women’s football. This is the first time we are meeting to unveil a title sponsor for the National Women’s League.

Prior to this we had a sponsor for the Women’s FA Cup, thankfully the Nduom Group and Fresh Pack are today announcing a new sponsor. It is my duty to announce to you that we wholeheartedly accept the offer to accept the women’s league”, Nyantakyi remarked.

The Managing Director of FreshPak Products, Nana Ofori Owusu said that the decision to sponsor the Women’s League was not a difficult one because women have been the bedrock of the company’s success.

He also highlighted the achievements of the Black Maidens and Princesses as a motivation behind the partnership.

The National Women’s League returns this weekend with the following fixtures:
