A video highlighting Kevin-Prince Boateng’s influential display in Ghana’s dramatic 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter-final against the Uruguay national football team has resurfaced, reigniting memories of one of the tournament’s most intense matches.
Played on July 2, 2010, at Soccer City in Johannesburg, the contest ended 1–1 after extra time before Uruguay won 4–2 on penalties, denying Ghana a historic semi-final place.
Boateng, who had switched his international allegiance to Ghana just months earlier, was pivotal throughout the game. Operating in midfield, he dictated play, linked attacks, and served as an engine for Ghana’s forward thrusts, creating chances with precise passing and clever movement.
His influence helped Ghana gain control in phases of the match, combining well with teammates and unsettling the Uruguayan defence.

In extra time, Boateng was involved in one of Ghana’s clearest chances to win the game, a glancing header that narrowly missed and flew past the post, a moment that would have sent the Black Stars into the World Cup semi-finals.
Although Ghana was ultimately denied by a last-minute handball by Luis Suárez and a subsequent missed penalty, Boateng’s performance remains one of the standout individual displays from what many consider one of Africa’s greatest World Cup moments.
