Harry Maguire has been handed a 15-month suspended prison sentence by a Greek court following his involvement in an incident on the island of Mykonos in August 2020.

The Manchester United centre-back was convicted on three counts: non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery, stemming from a late-night altercation during a family holiday. Maguire was arrested after a fight involving members of his family outside a bar.

According to Sky Sports News, the England international has consistently denied all allegations and is expected to appeal the verdict. His legal team will now take the case to the Greek Supreme Court in a bid to overturn the ruling and clear his name.

During proceedings, only one of the three police officers listed as witnesses appeared in court. However, legal representatives in Greece stated that the other two officers were not required to attend, as they had already submitted written statements.

The Greek prosecution lawyer has strongly rejected any claims of corruption or misconduct in the handling of the case, insisting that due process was followed in reaching the guilty verdict.

Maguire’s representatives have privately expressed concerns about aspects of the legal process, maintaining that the player remains innocent and is determined to challenge the conviction through the appeals system.
