Ghanaian rapper Medikal has addressed the backlash he received for inviting his ex-girlfriend, Sister Derby, to perform with him at his recent O2 Indigo concert in London. This move came amid rumours about troubles in his marriage to actress Fella Makafui.

On the May 4, 2024, episode of the United Showbiz show hosted by MzGee, Medikal explained that he wanted to give fans a live rendition of a popular track they had collaborated on.

He emphasized that the performance was meant to enhance the concert experience for fans, particularly those who had only enjoyed the song through his Snapchat and music videos but had never witnessed it live.

"She is someone I have a song with, a song people know about, and I wanted people to feel a live performance of what they watch on my Snapchat and in my music videos," Medikal stated.

He further clarified, "So that's what it is, not anything new. I wasn't trying to prove a point. I was just trying to have fun and let my fans have an experience of a great event."

Despite his rationale, some critics have deemed his actions disrespectful towards his wife, suggesting that the public display with Sister Derby was inappropriate given the circumstances.

Meanwhile, addressing the supposed breakup of his marriage, Medikal said in his interview on United Showbiz that it is important to focus on the event's success instead of meddling in such private matters.

He pointed out that his marriage is not the first in history to have ended.
