Manchester United check on Bernard Mensah

Manchester United are closely monitoring Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah, with scouts from the Premier League side making a trip to Portugal to watch the Vitoria Guimaraes’ 20-year-old over the weekend.

According to Italian media Tuttomercato, representatives from Old Trafford were present at the Estadio Afonso Henriques when Vitoria outplayed Estoril 2-0 in the Primeira Liga on Friday.

Mensah played 78 minutes for his side in the encounter and was their key man in the third end of the field.

According to A Bola, Manchester United have scouted Mensah several times this season, with a bid under preparation ahead of the summer market.

His sparkling form with the Little Whites this season has attracted interest from some European top flights including West Ham, Lyon, Juventus, Lyon and Monaco.

The Accra-born is spending his second season at Vitoria, having joined from Ghanaian club Gomoah Fetteh Feyenoord in 2013. During his first campaign, he scored nine times in 26 appearances with the youth team, helping them to earn promotion back to Segunda Liga.

He was promoted to the senior team this season and has netted four goals in 23 matches, including one against giants FC Porto.
