Akufo-Addo Is Destroying NPP

By Margaret Jackson

December 12, 2012

Power drunk leaders always show their attributes when their backs are against the wall. They never disappoint anybody. And throughout history we have either heard or seen them in all shades of colour.

When the power, fame and glory which power drunks cherish so much begins to crumble under them they go into denial mode and take certain positions that run counter to normal reasoning. Trust me, power drunks have always gone that route when power seem to be fleeting from them.

Therefore, what we are seeing from Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is nothing new. The twice defeated presidential candidate of the NPP just wants to be president of Ghana without convincing voters on why they should entrust the cherished country into the hands of such a beleaguered person.

This is a man who strongly believes that if his late dad had been a ceremonial president of Ghana, then he is equally entitled to rule the country at all cost before he dies.

Akufo-Addo lost the 2012 elections. The trouncing by President Mahama apart from being refreshing was also resounding and very convincing. Major power brokers within the NPP have no doubt in their minds that their man was beaten into submission, and that he has no case whatsoever against the Electoral Commission (EC) which conducted the elections which was declared by many organisations including the International Community as free, fair and transparent.

But in Akufo-Addo’s sub-conscious mind something went wrong, hence his rejection of the results. At a rally at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, Akufo-Addo displayed his shameful posture by declaring that he will never accept the results and that he was heading to court. What he added next made many jaws to drop: That he won the election so he will contest the results as long as it takes. Nice try!

Many NPP bigwigs are following Akufo-Addo blindly in his quest to take power at all cost, falsely assuming or believing that if he succeeds their bread would be buttered by him through appointments. But unbeknown to them, Akufo-Addo whose political career or game has come to an end is seriously taking down the NPP with him.

Simply put, Akufo-Addo is tearing the NPP apart. He is destroying the NPP. Suddenly many Ghanaians apart from seeing the NPP as sore losers are also coming to terms that the NPP is a party full of thugs and that it will throw the laws through the windows and settle scores through street fighting.

Akufo-Addo is not just fighting for political power. He is also out against the Ashanti mafias who he believes did nothing much to help his campaign, therefore, if he had gone down, he wants to take the power down the drains with him. He is using this subtle means to destroy the NPP so that by the time the Ashantis take back control of the party it would be in tartars.

There are pockets of violence and lawlessness being orchestrated by Akufo-Addo through his NPP supporters against the NDC members. Many Ghanaians are steaming with anger and if this nonsense does not stop immediately, by the time its over Akufo-Addo would have totally destroyed the NPP which had always put it credentials on the table that they are the pillars of democracy and believers in the rule of law.

Akufo-Addo should get life. He should go on with his life since he was not born a leader. In fact he does not have the attributes of a leader which is why his populist one-dimensional free Senior High School gimmick did not get him to the finish line in the presidential race.
