How Akufo Addo sold Ghana to Quattara for campaign cash

The 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo has taken his desperation to become president “at all cost” to a new dimension by joining forces with the Ivorian authorities to bastardize Ghana.

Nana Akufo-Addo at the IEA presidential forum held last week in Accra betrayed his own nation by claiming that Ghana is being perceived internationally as aiding Ivorian ex-combatants to overthrow Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara.

Nana Addo made reference to a purported UN report and a fact finding mission that the Security Council had initiated about the position of Ivorian residents in Ghana. His reckless posture on Ghana’s relations with Ivory Coast, and the embarrassingly violent charge on the government gave him up as somebody who is prepared to sell for Ghana for power.

This latest move came on the back of the Akufo-Addo campaign team taking delivery of logistics, campaign vehicles and Cash from President Quattara to support his presidential bid, which is in clear violation of the electoral rules on campaign funding.

It was most unpatriotic and reckless for a Ghanaian citizen running for the high office of President to insist that Ghana was harboring dissidents and was a threat to peace in Ivory Coast. The insistence of Nana Addo even in the face of contrary evidence from President John Mahama was most shocking. Clearly, Nana Addo did not care about the implications of his confrontational utterances.

Nana Addo’s posture on the matter give cause for concern because it was inappropriate for a Presidential Candidate regardless of his parochial motivations to give credence to unsubstantiated allegations making rounds in the international press more so at a time some elements in Ivory Coast are making a claim on portions of our oil and gas find in a delicate border dispute. The conduct of Nana Addo in this matter which has the tendency to raise tensions between both countries and eventually degenerate into conflict must be condemned by all peace loving Ghanaians.
