A National Day Of Shame: Wollanyo Agra Step Aside

The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) wishes to condemn in no uncertain terms, all persons whose actions or inactions contributed to the power outage during the football match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Friday the 1st of June 2012, between the National teams of Lesotho and Ghana.

Whilst we recognise the enabling environment accorded the GFA by the Sports ministry, we commend the technical team and salute the gallant men of the Black Stars who, through the mastery of their profession, brought the nation such joy, peace and needed national cohesion. We are indeed grateful and feel proud as Ghanaians.

This notwithstanding, AFAG will like to commend the boldness and maturity displayed by the ministry of information in face-lifting the President from the communication mess the communications director at the presidency has plunged the highly esteemed office of the president into. Indeed, we may not need to advice His Excellency to work hard at redeeming his image as the decision remains his to fire or keep at post; Kwaku Anyidoho, his mouth piece. Mr. President in your own interest, you may prefer to salvage the fast fading face of the presidency.
Meanwhile, as we welcome the decision to investigate and establish the cause of the lights out at stadium during the Black Stars match with Lesotho national team, we recommend for the investigations to last a week, and the findings made public within 2 weeks. However, these investigations would be an exercise in great futility if the National Sports Council (NSC) boss; Wollanyo Agra, and his regional director remain at post. These men must step aside immediately pending the outcome of the investigations.

Finally, we shall congratulate a Peace Fm sports journalist(Anim Addo) for the great composure and un-wavering tolerance he endeared himself to as Kwaku Anyidoho continued to hurl insinuations at journalists in this country during an interview session whilst the lights were out at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. These vituperations continued until Kwaku Anyidoho came to terms with the tangibility’s in the journalist's questions posed to him, then he apologised to the journalist. Such haste in attacking journalists must be condemned and is unwelcoming of a communications director at the presidency.
