Comment: Dissolve NSS Board Now!

It may sound funny to some people, though, as to why we should call on His Excellency Professor Mills to dissolve Mr. Nkunu Akyea’s National Service Scheme (NSS) Board, with immediate effect, when as an entity; we are not the appointing authority.

We accept wholeheartedly and agree with anyone who may argue it this line, since we have no such power; but the fact of the matter is that Mr. Nkunu Akyea’s Board must cease to function, since it has shown gross disrespect to the President.

Bringing the office term of Dr. David Percy and his group to a premature end, to us, will be the only antidote to the looming crisis that has engulfed the National Service Scheme (NSS) of which Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu unjustifiably has become a target. Why should a board that has chosen the media as its arbiter still continue to function, when it knows the appropriate channel used in resolving problems? In fact, this board has no business to be in office following the way and manner it chooses to conduct itself. As appointees of the President, it is only fair and proper that they show respect to their employer by bringing whatever grievances they might have before him, and pursue as such till all avenues of addressing issues fail; but knowing what their intentions were, they decided to make the issue public and that this is why we are of the opinion, and insist, that they should not be allowed to function. We are not in any way saying that the media, of which we are part, is not important; no! It is a fact that this nation cannot function without the media, but the point we are trying to drum home is that, Dr. David Percy and his people shouldn’t have used the media as their first resort when they have not discussed their official difficulties with the one who appointed them: That is our position. What is even annoying is that these board, months ago, met with the Minister of Education, Madam Betty Mould Iddrissu in her office, and at that particularly meeting indicated that there was no problem between them and Mr. Kuagbenu, so why should they turned to do what they are doing? They claim they can no longer work with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the scheme and we thank God for that good suggestion, although we disagree totally with them as regards the way and manner they went about the whole issue, since they have better idea to offer in the successful running of the scheme. Apart from this, the gentleman they are accusing of not cooperating with them, will have his peace of mind since they have become a bother more than the contributions they are expected to offer; and upon credible information intercepted by this paper, it is more than obvious that Dr. Percy and his Chairman, Nkunu Akyea will be the number one losers. In fact, these two personalities know what we are talking about, and if they think that by their unprofessional conduct as board members, Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu will be cowed to play to their whims and caprices, they must be deceiving themselves, since they have shown that they are enemies and not friends, as we used to think. Dr. David Percy and his people have clearly betrayed the President, per their action; and we demand that they are made to step aside for Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu to have his peace of mind to deliver.
