Tourism: Bojo Beach

When it comes to Ghana and its seemingly endless supply of white sandy beaches and resorts, one that comes to mind is Bojo Beach. Packed with amenities and still improving the facilities to accommodate its ever-growing clientele, this charmed place, located along the Accra-Cape Coast Road past Mc Cathy Hills turn left at the Old Police Barrier (Beach Road) towards Kokrobite, travel about 3 miles, shortly before Bortianor, turn left at the Bojo Beach sign and head to Bojo Beach Resort. In just about 30 minutes from Downtown Accra, immediately envelops visitors in natural splendor. Once there, guests are treated to the peace and tranquil of the Atlantic Ocean and its turquoise blue waters. Add in first-class entertainment, including gourmet dining and an array of spectacular activities and you will soon realize that you have discovered paradise on earth. If you are into beach wandering, water sports, golfing and good eating, Bojo Beach is the place to be.

The resort is divided up into two sections. On arrival, guests are greeted by a warm and courteous staff. Ample parking with security is available. The main section boasts of a redbrick building equipped with a conference room with a 200 sitting capacity, a bar, restaurant and a game area that offers a variety of games including table tennis. The beach is an island that contains a huge straw hut and a bar. It also has public restroom with showers. On this day when our crew visited, the resort was packed with tourists, locals and a horde of university students, all there to retreat, enjoy and socialize while taking advantage of the inviting amenities that the resort has to offer. They had apparently rented part of the resort for a day in the sun. A permit is required for a special event, music amplification, or use of special setup equipment.

The greatest feeling of nostalgia suddenly encompass visitors as tourists have to commune with nature on a sailboat or canoe as they drift between the conference center and the beach which is about 200 yards away. Normally, there is no waiting line to board the canoe but on this day, there was a ten-minute delay. The tourists are given life vests and they proceed to the canoe. With a whooshing sound, the boat takes off and the tourists are on their way to a tropical paradise where memories are as plentiful as the natural white sands that cover the beach allowing visitors to combine a cosmopolitan retreat at an excellent resort with the charm of historical fishing villages nearby and undiscovered ecological treasures.

After being ferried to the beach, patrons have options to rent lazy chairs and umbrellas, which can be set up in less than two minutes. After that, they can order drinks from the professional staff that are dedicated to ensuring that your glass will never be empty if so desired. With the lifeguards, in their reflective gear, ready on standby for any mishaps, tourists are rest assured that their time at the beach would be safe. The lifeguards are staffed daily, year round and are generally on duty from 9:00 a.m. to dusk; however, check with lifeguards for specific staff hours.

After relaxing and chugging down a couple of beers, one is ready to order from the menu that features continental as well as local dishes. The waiters telegraph the order to the main building and shortly the cuisine, fresh and hot would be ferried to the island where patrons can relax and enjoy their meals.
