Rawlings' NDC -Bad Losers

Not withstanding the “cocainocracy” campaign waged by the never-learning NDC, they have once again, lost another by-election – the Nkoranza North by-election.

After losing to the NPP in a race that they were so confident of winning, they have now resorted to blaming their loss on abuse of incumbency as well as lack of time for campaigning. They are also alleging bribery and intimidation of their supporters although, uncharacteristic of them, they accept the election results.

Perhaps is it not about time the NDC stopped looking outside for solutions to its problems and started turning their attention and lenses in their own parameters? What went wrong at Nkoranza is the fact that the ground structures of the NDC are crumbling. They had better appreciate the reality as early as possible, that big rallies and radio vituperations alone do not win elections.

Perhaps what the NDC need to do is what the Central Regional Propaganda Secretary of their party, Mr. Allotey Jacobs, has boldly proclaimed. He has decried his party’s approach to the by-elections. According to him, instead of going to the ground to campaign, the party’s leaders confined themselves to the studios of radio stations in Accra and Sunyani with a warped message. He says the approach they adopted amounted to mischief, especially when viewed against the backdrop of the fact that to the Nkoranza people, their industrious MP who had help bring enormous developments to them, no matter the controversy surrounding his arrest, was languishing in jail in far away lands. The people of Nkoranza, in sympathy with their estranged MP, and also in appreciation of the good works of the NPP government, decided to retain the NPP.

Could the NDC have been human a bit and realised also that they couldn’t insult the conscience and integrity of the Nkoranza citizenry by their shameful and toddlers propaganda?

Was the process fair, and the police professional, when they, the NDC, won similar by-elections in Odododiodio, Asawase, and Tamale Central? NDC will cry wolf at any giving opportunity. Why can’t they for once endeavour to be good losers? Why?

Kudos to the NPP for a deserving victory. The NDC should come back with better strategies next time, lest they are doomed come 2008.

On a more humorous level, what was Baba Jamal doing with the fowl that was discovered in the vehicle? “African electronics”?
