25 Senior secondary schools to be upgraded

TWENTY-FIVE senior secondary schools have been selected for the government’s senior secondary school upgrading programme.

The schools are to be upgraded at the cost of ?2 billion each. Funding for the programme is to be provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The upgrading of the schools forms part of the first phase of the exercise.

The Minister of Education, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, said in an interview that the scheme will take off soon.

He observed that the objectives of the scheme is to give the schools basic facilities that will bring them at par with the well-endowed schools in the urban areas.

Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi stated that the upgrading process is without prejudice and nothing has been done to sideline any district in the distribution of national resources.

The minister said the Cape Coast municipality is not likely to benefit from the scheme because it has a number of good schools.

He said the schools to benefit from the programme include Ghanatta Secondary School, Odorgonno Secondary School, Krachi Secondary School, Adidome Secondary School, Edinaman Secondary School, Twifo Praso Secondary School, Tweneboa Kodua Secondary School, Effiduasi Sekyere Secondary School, and the Adu-Gyamfi Secondary School.

The others are the Komfo Anokye Secondary School, Konongo-Odumase Secondary School, Anglican Secondary School, Amenfiman Secondary School, Baidoo Bonso Secondary School, Oyoko Methodist Secondary School, Oda Secondary School, Asuogyaman Secondary/Technical School, Bechem Presby Secondary School.

The rest are Tamale Secondary School, Drobo Secondary School, Damango Secondary, Lawra Secondary School, Wa Secondary School, Bawku Secondary School, and Bolga Secondary School.
