Hong Kong energy company to set up plant in Ghana

Accra, May 7, GNA - Rocky Canada, a Honk Kong global energy company, is to set up an energy manufacturing plant in Ghana to supply solar and wind power products. Officials of the company, which specialises in the manufacture, supply and installations of reliable renewable energy products, are currently in Accra attending the Lighting Africa 2008 energy conference. The Conference is to develop appropriate and viable business models for delivering modern, clean and safe non-fuel based off-grid lighting solutions.

Mr. Davis Jin, representing Rocky Canada, said during a call on Mr. Kwame Amporfo Twumasi, Deputy Energy Minister on Wednesday, that the company, which aimed at becoming one of leading renewable energy companies worldwide, currently offered the most competitive price for its known quality products. He said his company had found Ghana to be one of most conducive business environments in Africa and was prepared to come and invest as well as explore other opportunities for the benefit of the country. Mr Jin told the Deputy Minister that the company would first establish an energy product assembling plant to test its products in Ghana and other countries in the sub-regions in 2009. He said currently Rocky was partnering countries interested in establishing a research centre for solar energy, which could cost about 10 million dollars.

Giving an overview of Ghana's energy situation, Mr Twumasi said currently about 36 per cent of the population was yet to be covered in terms of energy supply and government's aim was to explore renewable energy sources.

He said Rocky Canada was welcomed and gave the assurance that government was ready to facilitate its investment process as well as protect its interest under its laws. Mr. Twumasi stressed adherence to quality standards and noted that all sorts of sub-standard products were coming into Ghana which needed to be checked.
