NPP-USA Celebrates Actress Akosua Busia.

NPP-USA proudly celebrates critically-acclaimed actress Akosua Busia, for her part in the Broadway play "Eclipsed", now showing at the John Golden Theatre in midtown Manhattan, New York. Akosua is the daughter of the illustrious Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia (of our own NPP's "Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition"), former Prime Minister of Ghana. She is best known for her role as Nettie in the film "The Color Purple", alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey.

"Eclipsed" is the powerful play by Danai Gurira depicting four strong women caught in the gruesome violence of the Liberian Civil War, held captive in a rebel compound as the "wives" of the unseen "Commanding Officer" who brutalizes them as his sexual slaves. Starring alongside Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o, Akosua Busia plays the part of Rita, an activist with a peace organization working to broker the peace to end the conflict, who occasionally visits the rebel compound.

Nominated for multiple Tony Awards including Best Play, "Eclipsed" makes history as the first Broadway show to feature an all-black, all-female cast, and a female writer and director.

NPP-USA urges its members and NPP sympathizers, especially in the New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Connecticut and Massachusetts chapters to attend the show this Saturday, June 11th at 8:00pm, where there will be a special opportunity to meet and greet Akosua and other cast members. The New York Chapter is prepared to welcome brothers and sisters of the Elephant Family coming from afar. You can find good seats and tickets at www.eclipsedbroadway.com.
