Ghana Embassy Celebrates 53rd Independence Day In Cairo

The Ambassador of Ghana to Egypt, H. E. Mr. Amin Amidu Sulemani hosted an impressive reception to commemorate Ghana’s 53rd Independence Anniversary in the historic city of Cairo. In a speech delivered at the function, H. E. Mr. Sulemani paid tribute to Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for successfully leading the process of African liberation and leaving an indelible mark in world history. He noted that in recognition of Dr. Nkrumah’s prominence achievements, the Government of Ghana was celebrating the centenary anniversary of his birthday, which fell on 21st September, 2009.

With respect to national developments, H. E. Mr. Sulemani noted that Ghana has made remarkable strides in the political sphere to further consolidate democracy, good governance, the rule of law and respect for human rights. Through socio-economic programmes for employment generation, Government was on track towards the realization of a Better Ghana vision.

On Ghana’s foreign policy, H. E. Mr. Sulemani reiterated Ghana’s firm commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations as well as in other international organizations. Through membership of such organizations, Ghana will assist in the quest for the establishment of a just and equitable world order. He added that Ghana will maintain active participation in the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and support efforts to resolve conflicts on the continent, to pave way for economic growth and development.

H. E. Mr. Sulemani expressed sincere gratitude to the Government and people of the Arab Republic of Egypt for their continued support to Ghana’s development efforts. He acknowledged that collaborative efforts were yielding positive gains which was reflected in a growing interest in trade and economic relations with Ghana In view of indications of better prospects for the year, he extended a warm invitation to investors and business men from Egypt and the Middle East to explore economic opportunities in Ghana, particularly in the agro-industry and tourism sectors. “A deepening of our economic relations will no doubt give strong impetus to the existing cordial relations between our two countries for the mutual benefit of our peoples”, he stated.

The guests were treated to a rich cultural display by the members of the Ghanaian community in Egypt.
