Ghanaians Gear Up For Ghanafest 2008

Ambassador Edusei cancels trip to "Obama city" at the last minute.

Chicago, Wednesday July 23 2008:The weather over the "African Village" at the Washington Park in Chicago is predicted to be very good; temperatures will range 67-95 degrees Fahrenheit and once again Chicago's Ghanafest will not be interrupted by nature. The mainden festival took place under sporadic rainfall some twenty years ago. Patrons and other attenddees are advised to drink a lot of fluids and refrain from alcoholic beverages under the predicted simmering heat wave.

Ghanaweb Ace photo journalist , Mr. CNN, will team up with Bedzra Consultants to cover the festival for Ghanaweb, Ghana National Web Site, ghananationalcouncil.org and a host of other Ghanaian web sites magazines and newsprints.

A special report by the Afrique Magazine in Chicago here reminded its massive readers that 2008 Ghanafest will take place on July 26 from 11 A. M to 10 P. M at the Washington Park in Chicago to celebrate and reflect on the culture and history of this stable and historically as well as minerally important West African nation. Ghana was the first African nation to gain independence from England in 1957.

The Report continued that the late legendary Kwame Nkrumah, a U.S. educated intellectual was Ghana’s first President. Nkrumah paved the way for other African colonies to enter the then novel era of African Independency from European colonial powers. 51 years later, Chicago’s vibrant Ghanaian community will reflect upon progress since independence as well as the rich pre-colonial history of the Gold Coast, the pre-modern name of Ghana in cheerful and convivial environment. The organizers of the 2008 Ghanafest promise to showcase the best that Ghana has to offer in the spheres of music, culture and traditional African artistic display.

The Monthly Newspaper concluded by asking all Chicago Ghanaians and friends of Ghana to attend the 2008 Ghanafest ,at the historic Washington.

Meanwhile,the keynote speaker of the event, Ghana's Ambassador to the USA, Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei has cancelled his trip to Chicago. He is expected to host a delegation of parliamentarians visiting the USA from Ghana! Attempts by the organizers to get the Embassy to send an embassy official to deputise for him has not yet been succesful!
