Nduom Shakes Chicago

Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, former Minister of Public Sector Reform, has spoken against politics of exclusion which allows only members of the winning party to take part in governing the country.

That kind of politics, according to Dr. Nduom, “kills initiative, and prevents the best people from making the contribution they should make to solve our problems and it makes governing expensive. It also encourages corruption”.

Dr. Nduom was speaking to the Ghanaian community in Chicago, where he was the guest speaker at this year’s celebration of the annual Ghana Fest festival organized by the National Council and Ghanaians in North America.

The former Minister who is also the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Member of Parliament for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirim (KEEA) Constituency, re-affirmed his belief in the politics of all inclusiveness which allowed him to serve for six-and-a-half years as Minister in the President Kufuor-led New Patriotic Party government.

“I believe in all inclusiveness because in all we do as a people, whether in government or the private sector, the results affect all Ghanaians and not a certain ethnic group or political party”, he noted.

Explaining the demerits of politics of exclusion, Dr. Nduom said it allows members of the ruling party to selfishly and wrongly assume that “members of the opposition should not get government contracts, positions, board membership or even leadership positions in the public service”.

Dr. Nduom called on all Ghanaians living abroad, who have some knowledge and experience on how to move Ghana forward, to join hands and help the country move forward.

He was quick to commend them for supporting the economy by sending remittances home to help their relatives in various forms.

Dr. Nduom encouraged Ghanaians abroad to invest their finances in Ghana, noting that they are as good if not even better, than the foreign investors who throng the country.

The Ghana Fest festival attracted an estimated 15,000 Ghanaians living abroad. The ceremony also provided a platform for Dr. Nduom to explain in detail the government’s efforts at reforming the Public Sector.

Dr. Nduom took time to explain various public sector reform programmes particularly the Service Delivery Improvement, Conditions of Work, Human Resource Development, Lands Commission, among others.
