Association donates to College

Accra, March. 8, GNA - The Kwahu Citizens Association in the United Kingdom (UK) on Thursday donated 10,000 pounds cash as the first tranche of 50,000 pounds for the construction of an administration block for the Presbyterian University College.

The Okwahumanhene, Daasebere Nana Akuamoa Boateng 11 who led members of the association said since education formed an integral and very important aspect of the development of every nation, members saw the provision of the university by the Church as a laudable one.

Daasebere Boateng noted that the idea prompted him to travel to the UK to solicit funds from citizens of Kwahu to take off some of the church's burden and contribute their quota to the development of education in the region and the nation as a whole.

Miss Florence Osafo, who made the donation said the money was generated through a 20 pounds levy placed on each registered member of the Association and a fund raising dinner organized in the UK for all Ghanaians.

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Dr. Yaw Frimpong Manso, who received the donation on behalf of the school said the church was poised to provide quality education right from the junior level to the tertiary level.

Citing the various problems that students go through before getting admission to the tertiary institutions, he said the university college would go along way to ease the burden of parents and students. He noted that when the Church turns 180 years next year, it would continue to braze the trail in education by churning out good quality products with requisite skills and capabilities to make them marketable in the competitive world of commerce.

Right Rev. Frimpong Manso noted that the Akropong branch of the university is already opened and offers General Arts courses. He said the authorities were planning to add additional courses before the end of the year.

He said the Agogo Medical School was under construction and called on Nananom and the public to support the church to produce disciples and religiously inclined citizens. The Principal, of the University, Prof Sraku Lartey was present at the ceremony. 08 March 07
