Ghana To Host Quadrangular Cricket

Ghana will host the West African Quandrangular Cricket Tournament at the Achimota Oval between April 10 and 16 this year.The event will precede the nation?s participation in the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament to be staged in Benoni City, South Africa, in the latter part of April.

The tournament which was originally scheduled to take place in Nigeria had to be moved to Ghana due to some hitches.

To this end, the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) has pleaded with companies to come to it aid with sponsorship to enable it to host the tournament successfuly.

The tournament, which is the biggest on the cricket calenadar in West Africa, will draw from Nigeria, Gambia, Ghana and defending champions, Sierra Leone.

Meanwhile, seven seasoned players from Indiana in the ongoing Chopra Memorial Cricket Trophy have earned call-ups to the national team as part of plans to beef up the team for the two tournaments. They are Boupane, Raj Kumar, Hermand, Nirmal, Anup, Ajip and Sumbar.

After almost two months of competition, the stage is set for the grand final of the Chopra Trophy between FCC and CCTC. In the semi-finals played last Sunday, Kofi Francis and Samson Aweh scored a record 108 and 77 runs respectively to set a record target of 236 runs in 25 overs. Tennis XI managed only 141 runs.

Francis, who is currently Ghana?s best batsman, was the man of the match. In the other game CCTC resricted Indiana XI to 99 runs and used only 17 overs to reach the target.
