Price of cassava increases in third week in April

For the third week in April, cassava recorded the highest gain in price.

The price of the commodity increased by 10 percent to close the week at 7 cedis 10 pesewas for three to four tubers.

This was followed by yam which recorded 8 percent gain in price to close the week at 6 cedis 10 pesewas per medium size tuber.

According to figures released by Esoko Ghana, tomato which made the highest gain in price last week, recorded the third highest gain this week and it is selling at 7 cedis 60 pesewas per medium size tin.

Meanwhile the prices of soyabean, groundnut, millet and maize dropped between 1 and 3 percent for the third week in April.

According to Esoko, they are now selling at 6 cedis 40 pesewas; 13 cedis 70 pesewas and 5 cedis 40 pesewas respectively. On the various markets, a medium size tin of maize gained 2 percent in Kumasi to close the week at 5 cedis 50 pesewas.

It however dropped by 13 percent in Techiman to close the week at 3 cedis 50 pesewas. The price however remained the same on the other markets. Tomato gained 25 percent in Techiman to close the week at 10 cedis.

It also gained 7 percent in Takoradi to close the week at 15 cedis. In Tamale, the commodity gained 2 percent to close the week at 5 cedis 40 pesewas.
