Kumasi, June 1, GNA - Professor Stephen Adei, National President of the Ghana Red Cross Society, has noted that efficient management and prudent economic measures were crucial for a successful enterprise. Prof Adei, a former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), attributed the recent attainment of good image and credibility of GIMPA to stringent and economic measures he initiated when he was there.
He said he was able to uproot corruption and financial malfeasance. "During my nine years as Rector of GIMPA, I was able to raise the finances of GIMPA from 500,000 dollars to 15 million dollars before I left office," he disclosed.
He was speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Ashanti Regional Chapter of the Ghana Red Cross Society in Kumasi on Saturday. The meeting, which elected Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, Medical Superintendent of South Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi as chairman with Mr Chaoki El-Aridi, a businessman as vice-chairman, was aimed at reviewing and evaluating the Society's past activities and plans for subsequent years. The immediate past regional executives, who were honoured for their dedicated and selfless services to Society, were presented with certificates.
Prof Adei stated that change was a meaningful process to effect improved management, transparency and accountability to achieve sustainable growth and development. He urged the new executives to plan effective strategies that would rekindle the interest and voluntary spirit of the citizenry to enable them understand and appreciate the laudable aims and objectives of the Red Cross Society.
Dr Opoku-Adusei, Regional Chairman, announced that the chapter has negotiated two buildings at Asisiriwa and Atwima-Twedie to be converted to clinics to serve the health needs of the residents. Mr Kwadwo Oduro-Apeatu, Ashanti Regional Manager of the Red Cross Society said the Society had 63 chapters in 10 districts in the Region with more than 667 members.
