Dangote CEO wins best building and construction industry award

Tor Nygard, Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement Ghana Ltd, has been awarded the Building & Construction Chief Executive of the Year 2016 at the Ghana Entrepreneur & Corporate Executive Awards 2017.

The award, which is in recognition of his leadership towards the growth of the cement industry in Ghana, is an exclusive event that seeks to reward excellence among the most committed and dedicated entrepreneurs and corporate executives in Ghana.

Receiving the award, Mr. Nygard expressed his appreciation to the organizers for the recognition. “This is a recognition of the collective efforts we at Dangote Cement have put into the growth of our company over the years. It further demonstrates that the whole world has been watching every step we have been making towards our expansion here in Ghana.

This award, no doubt, will spur us to ensuring that we continue to work hard to deliver on our corporate mandate,” he said.

The Building and Construction Chief Executive Officer of the Year was selected by a panel of industry experts, taking into consideration the individual contributions towards the growth of the industry.

Commenting on the award, the Founder of the Entrepreneurs Foundation Ghana, Ato Gaisie, said: “we recognize Tor Nygard for his excellent contribution to the building and construction industry in Ghana.

Under his leadership, we have seen the stabilization of prices of cement and healthy competition among industry players which has invariably provided choice for the end user. Dangote Cement has also grown in terms of their market shares and human resource base,” he added.

Other business leaders who were awarded at the event included the President of Groupe Ideal, Nii Kotei Dzani; Group Chairman of First Sky Group of Companies, Eric Kukortse; Managing Director of Nestle Ghana Ltd., Freda Duplan; and the Chief Executive Officer of Unibank Ghana Ltd, Felix Nyarko-Pong.

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah, congratulated the award winners for their distinct contributions to the growth of the Ghanaian economy. He assured the business leaders of government’s continuous support and also challenged them to take advantage of the government’s 1-district-1-factory policy to expand their businesses.

As an initiative of Entrepreneur Foundation of Ghana, in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Association of Ghana, and the ministries of Trade and Industry and Finance, the awards recognizes entrepreneurs who have displayed massive performance that helped them emerge out of poverty, create jobs and add value to the society.

Sponsored by OmniBank, the 2017 or Ghana@60 edition was under the theme “Promoting Economic Growth through Private Sector Development and Corporate Governance.”

The theme, according to organizers was chosen to enhance business relationships between entrepreneurs and business executive and also to promote government’s private sector development initiative.
