B/A disabled team win basketball tourney

Sunyani, (B/A) Feb. 26, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional Physically Disabled Wheelchair Basketball team has presented a trophy it won at the National Wheelchair Basketball tournament held in Kumasi on February to the officials of the Regional office of the National Sports Council at Sunyani.
The B/A team made mince meat of the Ashanti Regional team with a massive score of 98 baskets to 11 baskets in the final duel. The tournament formed part of efforts towards the establishment of a national wheelchair basketball team and was an opportunity to invite potential sponsors to invest in the game.
It was also to pick talented female and male players for the National Wheelchair Basketball teams to begin and to set up a National Wheelchair League towards unearthing and moulding talents to compete on the international stage.
Mr. Bostyo Nkegbe, National Vice-Chairman of the Ghana Society for the Physically Disabled who doubles as the team's captain told the GNA Sports when he presented the trophy.
All the ten regions were represented at the tournament, however the Upper East, Upper West and Volta Regions could not get their full compliment of qualified and talented players for selection into the national team.
Mr. Mohammed Bin Saeed, Chairman of the Wheelchair Basketball Club, who presented the trophy said shortage of wheel chairs and tyres, lack of training equipment, store room, basketball court and balls are some of the problems facing the team and called on individuals and organizations for assistance.
Mr. Kofi Duku Duodu, Regional Sports Development Officer, who received the trophy, congratulated the team for bringing honour to the Region.
He promised the team of the Sports Council's support and the inclusion of the team in its regional sports development plans. Mr. Duodu advised the players to be disciplined and commended the team's coach for offering his expertise to ensure the success of the team.
The Vice Chairman of the Society thanked the Council for making available facilities at the Coronation Park in Sunyani for their training and appealed to the Council to provide the team with a new set of jerseys.
The team's captain appealed to the council to help motivate the players and to seek their welfare and interest so it could excel at the international level.
The team recieved a cash prize of GH Cedis 100 with Richard Mensah (alias Tommy Wiredu), who emerged the top scorer of the tournament with 60 baskets was presented with a wall clock and Ghana cedis 10 as his prize.
