Decemba2Rememba Was Da Bomb

Did you miss the Decemba 2 Rememba? Gosh you have yourself to blame for inflicting such punishment on yourself. Let me start from the set design; one word best describes it phenomenal.

From the moment the curtains went up at about nine o’clock and the Megastar Band appeared on stage we were treated to thirty minutes of a mix of African music. The band clad in MTN T-shirts gave us enough reasons to expect a super show. First on stage was Bukom Banku and his trainer who dished out some rib splitting and life threatening English jargons.

Slim Busterr and his dancer set the tone for a fine night with a well executed dance routine. That was not all, his exhilarating dance antics and carefully selected songs sent the hall agog. The announcement of Msbel and her dancers was greeted with thunderous applause and whistles. We were all pleasantly excited when she blended well with the Megastar band to entertain us. Their outfit was great but in Msbel fashion hot.

Then comes Okyeame Quami and Bradez from Kumasi, who proved that the Garden City had so much to offer. Their delightful choreographs won the hearts of all and that was when the party really began. With fans almost out of breathe Tic Tac backed by an all male band struck the tune for the famous “Philomena”. The screams from the ladies was so deafening when Tic Tac invited ten girls and guys to join him do the “Kangaroo”. His session was simply electrifying.

After all that excitement, it was necessary to take a short break to cool off the euphoria. As if we hadn’t had enough then came from “Boogie Down Nima” V.I.P. I’m short of words to describe the state of ecstasy in the hall throughout their performance. The concert took a new turn when the “Gospel Abrantee” Kwaku Gyasi brought in some Holy Ghost filled fire onto the stage. We were all singing and screaming on top of our voices hoping to go hoarse before Samini came on.

Nana Quame cooled us of perfectly with his mellow music followed by Kwabena Kwabena who was at his singing best. He gelled so much with the band one would think he had been working with them his whole life. But this was only the calm before the storm of Prayé and those white hippie kids.

Prayé who had only returned from a UK tour that morning showed no sign of fatigue. They gave good account of themselves and surprised everyone with the invitation of 4X4 and Tinny to join them perform the remix of the hit song “Jacket”. What a show stopper that performance was from Prayé, 4X4 and Tinny. I surely could have left for home now because I had gotten more entertainment than I paid for; but I wouldn’t, Samini was still to come.

At long last at 2:15am the Megastar Band struck the tune of “Odo” then “Linda” and “Samini” there came Samini running in spotting a white blazer and black pair of tight jeans. The hall clad in white tops just surged forward just to feel Samini a whole lot better. He rocked for thirty minutes until he was invited by Sammy Forson to join the after party in the lobby that had already started.

When we got into the lobby it had been transformed into a disco with the Ramblers International Band playing some vintage highlife. The décor in the lobby was fantastic, the lighting was mind blowing and the music sweet. Citi FM truly knows how to rock a party. You should have seen Samini’s birthday cake; it was shape like the Ghana map and in the Ghanaian colours with his picture engraved on top.

The beautiful cake was adorned with four flares that were lit whilst he cut the cake with the help of his family amidst the popping of champagne. There was so much to eat and drink and no one could go home since this show was the first of its kind ever to happen in Ghana. I won’t miss Decemba 2 Rememba II.
