Ofori Amponsah Flops At Kumasi

The much touted Ofori Amponsah's pre-Valentine Jam in Kumasi ended in humiliation as the key performer of the evening failed to live up to expectation and ended the show abruptly.

Ofori Amponsah after singing just two songs, left the stage unceremoniously and requested to meet the organisers of the show, Kays Media Productions outside the hotel premises. "I want to see the organisers outside", he said over the microphone and left.

That resulted in a near brawl, as patrons who paid 100, 000 cedis each to attend the show, could not come in terms with the behaviour of the artiste.

While some members of the organising team engaged Amponsah in exchange outside over the abrupt end of the show, others were forced to make some refunds of gate fees to some patrons who were bold to demand it.

No one could tell the reasons for the behaviour of the artiste, but indications were that, he was not happy with the attendance at the show.

A handful of patrons, mainly ladies, were what the Graphic Showbiz saw at the start of the show around 1:00am even though, it was billed to start at 8pm.

Some patrons argued that, if really Amponsah was not happy with the attendance, he shouldn't have acted the way he did especially since they defied an earlier rainfall, which stopped around 9pm to witness Amponsah perform live.

During Christmas, Amponsah in like manner disappointed a massive crowd at Sunyani when he failed to attend a similar show organised in which he was the main act. Ofori Amponsah was said to have deserted the organisers of that show at the eleventh hour after he received a juicy deal for a concert in the USA.

Following that disappointed, majority of music lovers in Sunyani vowed never to patronise any songs or attend any show organised for him.

Last Saturday in Kumasi, when Amponsah mounted the stage at 2am, after Kwabena Kwabena had warmed the stage, he begged the sparse audience to gather at one area for him to start his performance, but no one moved.

He went ahead with his performance with only Barosky joining him on stage, even though Kofi Nti was also advertised to be on stage. Information gathered by Showbiz was that Kofi Nti had traveled outside the country.

Amponsah mimed the lyrics of 'Otoolege' and asked the DJ to give him a beat but stopped mid-way through the song. He changed songs and decided to sing 'Bonwire Kente'. This time, he again begged the audience to be on their feet, dance and sing along with him, but no one moved since they were obviously not in the mood.

After this he sang for a while then asked the DJ to stop the music and said over the microphone that, he wanted to see the organisers outside, dropped the microphone and left.

Following that disappointment last Saturday, many of the patrons present expressed disgust at his behaviour especially since the organisers had promised that Ofori had always looked forward to performing for his teeming Kumasi fans and that he was going to give them a spectacular performance.

Information gathered by the Showbiz also indicated that Obuasi show on Friday was equally not the best as it was poorly attended.

Many were those who raised questions as to why Amponsah's a.k.a. All 4 Real, one of Ghana's finest musicians, was having his shows poorly attended in recent times.

Earlier, Kwabena Kwabena of Aso fame livened up the place with three of his songs while the MCs for the night, Koo Fori and Kwame Dzokoto gave patrons some side-splitting laughter with their jokes.
